The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS) continued its mission of providing timely, compassionate and people-centred support to households affected by recent flooding events with the distribution of $365,500.00 in Disaster Relief Grants to families throughout the Tunapuna/Piarco Region.
The presentation ceremony, hosted on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the St. Augustine South Community Centre, welcomed fifty-three (53) grant recipients representing one hundred and sixty-eight (168) household beneficiaries affected by recent flooding and damage to their homes. A total of $365,500 in assistance was distributed, including fifty-three (53) household item grants valued at $350,500, fourteen (14) clothing grants totalling $14,000, and one (1) school supplies grant worth $1,000.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, emphasised that the Ministry remains committed to delivering fair, transparent, and timely support to families during their greatest moment of need. She added, “We are committed to strengthening every aspect of disaster response and social support so that families receive assistance faster and with greater ease. We will continue to evaluate, listen and improve because citizens deserve nothing less.”
The Honourable Khadijah Ameen, Member of Parliament for St. Augustine and Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, in delivering remarks, commended Minister Mohit and the Ministry for the swift delivery of assistance to residents affected by flooding. She encouraged recipients to share feedback, noting that their experiences help improve systems, address gaps, and shape more effective community support.
Minister Mohit reaffirmed that the Ministry remains committed to meeting citizens where they are and will continue distribution activities across the Tunapuna/Piarco Region to ensure that every verified household in need receives assistance.
