The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, through the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS), continues to stand with families during times of crisis, ensuring timely support, dignity, and care for those affected by unforeseen disasters.
On Thursday, January 22, 2026, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, presented disaster relief grants totalling thirteen thousand dollars ($13,000.00) to Mr. Brian Chadee and his household of three (3) beneficiaries. The presentation took place at the Ministry’s Head Office on St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain.
The Chadee family suffered a devastating loss when their St. Julien Road, Princes Town home was destroyed by a recent fire, leaving them without essential household items and personal belongings. The assistance provided includes grants for household items and clothing, offering immediate relief as the family begins the process of rebuilding their lives.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Mr. Chadee thanked the Honourable Minister and the Ministry for the swift intervention, noting that the support came after a relatively short waiting period during an extremely difficult time. He also commended the courtesy, compassion, and professionalism shown by the Ministry’s staff throughout the process, stating that the assistance gave his family renewed hope and reassurance.
The Ministry serves as a second responder in times of disaster, providing financial assistance and psychosocial support to households that become vulnerable as a result of fire, flooding, and other emergencies through the National Social Development Programme (NSDP). Through its disaster response framework, the Ministry seeks not only to address immediate material needs, but also to support emotional recovery and family stability.
Minister Mohit reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring that no family faces disaster alone, emphasising that the Ministry remains focused on people-centred interventions that restore hope, strengthen resilience, and protect the most vulnerable.
This intervention reflects the continued dedication of the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services to supporting families in crisis and ensuring compassionate, responsive governance in moments that matter most.
