The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services marked a memorable occasion yesterday, as the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services made her first official centenarian visit since assuming office. The Minister joined the family and friends of Reverend Henry St. Clair to celebrate his 100th birthday at the Granville Open Bible Church, Granville.
The event honoured a significant milestone in an atmosphere filled with gratitude, love and admiration for Reverend St. Clair, a respected spiritual leader whose life has been defined by faith, humility and service to others. As he addressed those gathered, Reverend St. Clair offered a heartfelt blessing, “May the richest blessings of God be upon each one of you and your family.”
Minister Mohit expressed her deep appreciation and respect for Reverend St, Clair’s legacy in her remarks, stating, “Reverend St. Clair is a living example of how service, faith and family can build a life of meaning and purpose. His story reminds us that strength comes not from material wealth but from the way we live, the way we treat others and the legacy we leave behind. It was important for me to be here today to say thank you in person for the life you have lived and the example you continue to be.”
Born on August 19, 1925 in Point Coco, Cedros, Reverend St. Clair, fondly known as ‘Captain Hard’, was the first in his village to accept Christ during early missionary outreach. He went on to become a lay preacher and later served as a pastor for many decades. His life reflects resilience, devotion and leadership, having worked the land and sea while uplifting others through faith and encouragement.
Now surrounded by seven children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Reverend St. Clair credits his longevity to his unwavering faith in God and meaningful relationships with others. Offering guidance to the younger generation, he shared these words of wisdom,
“Serve God and be friendly with your neighbours. These are the things that last.”
The hamper and birthday cake presented to Reverend St. Clair were sponsored by the National Flour Mills Ltd. and the Kiss Baking Company Ltd.
