Ministries of The People, Social Development and Family Services and Health meet to discuss collaboration for the operationalisation of the NTRC

In a decisive step towards operationalising the National Therapeutic and Resource Centre for Persons with Disabilities (NTRC) at Carlsen Field, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, led a high-level meeting with Dr. the Honourable Lackram Bodoe, Minister of Health, and senior officials from both ministries today, Friday July 18, 2025. The discussion focused on forging strategic collaboration to provide specialised clinical and therapeutic services at the facility, an initiative that will significantly enhance support for persons with disabilities across Trinidad and Tobago.

Following a tour of the facility, which gave the Health Minister and his team a first-hand look at the layout and specialised equipment designed for both paediatric and adult clients, the two Ministers discussed plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding which would facilitate the provision of clinical and therapeutic services at the centre.

This initiative is in keeping with the Government’s inclusive, people- focussed goal of providing a better standard of life for all citizens, especially the most vulnerable. This meeting comes on the heels of yesterday’s meeting with the Ministry Housing to discuss the potential provision of accessible housing for persons with disabilities.

Minister Mohit expressed her Ministry’s eagerness to see the facility become fully operational, providing much-needed services to those most in need across the country. The Centre will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for persons living with disabilities, while also serving as a training ground for emerging professionals in therapy and social work.
