The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services, through the National Social Development Programme (NSDP), today, Saturday, February 28, 2026, distributed ninety-three thousand and fifty-nine dollars ($93,059.00) in Home Repair and Disaster General Assistance Grants to benefit vulnerable households in the Point Fortin and La Brea communities.

A total of eight (8) households, representing twenty-seven (27) beneficiaries, received assistance. One (1) household comprising three (3) beneficiaries will benefit from Home Repair Grants in the amount of twenty-four thousand, two hundred and fifty-nine dollars ($24,259.00). Additionally, Disaster General Assistance Grants will assist seven (7) households, comprising twenty-four (24) beneficiaries, in the amount of sixty-eight thousand, eight hundred dollars ($68,800.00). These grants will go towards enabling families to repair and improve the safety and functionality of their homes during the recovery process.

The Ministry remains committed to improving the quality of life for citizens recovering from disasters and those facing financial hardship. The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services reassured those gathered that the mandate of the Ministry is clear, stating, “disaster does not discriminate. It does not ask about status or circumstance. It disrupts lives abruptly and without warning… and when it does, the role of Government is clear, to stand in the gap between crisis and recovery. That is the mandate of this Ministry, we are here to help, we are here to empower, we are here to transform lives.”

Minister Mohit further noted, “transformation sometimes begins with something as fundamental as restoring a wall, repairing a roof, or replacing what was lost.” She continued, “to the families receiving assistance today, I want to say this, this support is an investment in your stability and your recovery as citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.”

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services stands as a vital second responder in times of disaster, delivering critical relief through financial assistance and psychosocial support to families made vulnerable by unforeseen events, and remains steadfast in its commitment to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

Through its service delivery arms, such as the National Social Development Programme (NSDP), the Ministry continues to prioritise support for the most vulnerable citizens by implementing responsive social protection programmes that not only ease immediate hardship but also lay the foundation for long-term stability, resilience, and empowerment.
