The Ministry of People, Social Development and Family Services (MSDFS) wishes to inform the public of its ongoing intervention in a serious case of child sexual abuse, which is currently receiving attention from the Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, an entity which now falls under the purview of this Ministry.
The case was reported in March of this year and has led to the intervention of a multidisciplinary team, which has actively provided support to the child victims and their mother. The family continues to receive psychosocial care, with the most recent engagement taking place earlier this month.
The Ministry notes that counselling has also been provided for the victim’s sibling with the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection. In addition, food card assistance has been approved and is expected to begin in July.
The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services reaffirms its zero-tolerance stance on all forms of child abuse and remains committed to working with all relevant agencies to ensure affected children and families in Tobago and across the country receive the care, protection, and justice they deserve.
