Ministry of the People Takes Seed Grants Directly into Communities

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS) has taken the distribution of its Sowing Empowerment through Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) Grants directly into communities, as part of Government’s continued efforts to bring services directly to the people.

On Thursday, August 28, 2025, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, visited the Princes Town Regional Corporation where four (4) recipients received SEED Grants valued at fifty-four thousand, one hundred and fifty-seven dollars ($54,157.00). The support will benefit a total of seventeen (17) persons from the community.

Continuing the outreach today, Friday, August 29, 2025, Minister Mohit presented two (2) additional SEED Grants at the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation. The grants, valued at twenty-nine thousand, eight hundred and seventy-five dollars ($29,875.00), will benefit two (2) families in the region.

In her remarks, Minister Mohit emphasised the importance of bringing services directly to the people through the SEED Programme, ensuring that citizens can access Government’s support within their own communities. She encouraged recipients to view the grants as “planted seeds with the potential to grow into sustainable success” and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the funds are invested in their businesses to strengthen livelihoods and improve family wellbeing.

The SEED Grant, valued at up to $15,000.00 per recipient, is administered through the National Social Development Programme (NSDP). It provides disadvantaged citizens with the critical support needed to initiate or expand their micro-enterprises by supplying equipment, materials, or specialised training.

The Ministry will continue its community distributions in other regions across the country in the coming weeks, as part of its ongoing mission to empower citizens and strengthen families.
