The Government Reaffirms its National Commitment to Mitigating Gender Based Violence

The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, through the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services, is reaffirming its commitment to preventing Gender Based Violence and ensuring that citizens know where to access help, as the country concludes its observance of the Sixteen (16) Days of Activism Against Gender- Based Violence today Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

As part of its national public education campaign, the Ministry has increased its presence in communities, strengthened partnerships with civil society and schools, and advanced an aggressive education programme. The Government through the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services, marked the 2025 Sixteen (16) Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence through a dynamic series of initiatives, including the ‘Unmute the Silence’ webinar, targeted social media outreach, and active participation in partner events such as the UWI walk, the Family Planning Association of Trinidad and Tobago (FPATT) 5K, and activities hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

The Ministry reminds the public that there are a number of support services available to address incidents of gender based violence and to report such matters. Preventing gender based violence begins with awareness, compassion and timely action. As the nation brings the Sixteen Days of Activism to a close today, the Ministry emphasises that the work does not end here.

By knowing the signs, offering support and utilising the services available, citizens play a powerful role in safeguarding families and strengthening community networks. The Government through the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services, will continue to invest in education, public sensitisation and survivor centred services throughout the year. It calls on all members of society to stand in solidarity and work towards a Trinidad and Tobago where violence has no place.
