The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS) in collaboration with the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) hosted a brief but significant ceremony on Wednesday September 17, 2025 to formally appoint members of the Tobago Local Public Assistance Board.

In her remarks, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services reaffirmed her Ministry’s commitment to partnering with the THA to ensure that Tobago continues to receive quality and timely services.

“Tobago is already one of the greatest little islands on the planet. What we are doing here today is about strengthening systems so that the poor and vulnerable can get the support they deserve. The appointment of the Local Public Assistance Board is not just ceremonial – it is an opportunity to serve the people. We expect the members to be proactive, collaborative, and to work in the best interest of Tobago,” Minister Mohit said.

Deputy Chief Secretary and Secretary of Health, Wellness and Social Protection, Dr. Faith Brebnor warmly welcomed Minister Vandana Mohit, along with her team, highlighting the importance of seamless collaboration between the Ministry and the THA in delivering critical social protection services to the people of Tobago.

“The Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection is structured to treat with health through the TRHA, wellness through public health, and social protection by strengthening our people’s ability to withstand shocks. Minister Mohit and I have been working closely to ensure that Tobagonians benefit fully and seamlessly from the national social support network. This means better coordination, fewer duplications, and more efficient delivery of services to those who need it most,” the Deputy Chief Secretary said.

This initiative, guided by recommendations from international development partners, will help ensure proper governance, clarity in mandates, and consistency in reporting practices.
