Ministry of the People Delivers More Than TT$651,000 in Disaster Relief and Home Repair Grants to Sangre Grande Families

The Government's commitment to supporting vulnerable families continued on Wednesday July 15, 2026, as the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS) delivered Disaster General Assistance and Home Repair Grants valued at Six Hundred and Fifty-One Thousand, Three Hundred and Nine Dollars and Eighty-Five Cents (TT$651,309.85) to fifty-nine (59) households across the Sangre Grande region.

Addressing recipients, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, reaffirmed the Government's commitment to ensuring that vulnerable families receive timely assistance during difficult times, noting that every grant reflects the Ministry's continued commitment to improving the lives of those most in need.

"Today's distribution is another demonstration of this Government's unwavering commitment to championing the poor, the vulnerable and those who often face life's greatest challenges. We have always believed that the true measure of good governance is not found in words, but in action; not in promises, but in the lives we improve. That principle continues to guide every initiative we undertake at this Ministry. Every grant presented today is an investment in hope, dignity and the opportunity for families to rebuild and move forward with confidence."

A total of fifty-nine (59) households, representing one hundred and seventy-eight (178) beneficiaries, received assistance through the Ministry's Disaster General Assistance and Home Repair Grant programmes. The assistance comprised:

  • Forty-five (45) Disaster General Assistance Grants, benefiting one hundred and forty (140) persons, at a value of Three Hundred and Sixty-Three Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty-Six Dollars and Eighty-Five Cents (TT$363,356.85).
  • Fourteen (14) Home Repair Grants benefiting thirty-eight (38) persons, at a value of Two Hundred and Eighty-Seven Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty-Three Dollars (TT$287,953.00).

This distribution marks the thirty-sixth Disaster General Assistance and Home Repair Grant distribution, which has been led by Minister Mohit since assuming office. Thereby reflecting the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to bringing essential support directly to communities across Trinidad and Tobago.

By working closely with local government to directly impact communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago, the Ministry remains steadfast in its mission to strengthen families, restore hope and improve the quality of life of those it serves.
