Social Assistance & Housing Improvement

The National Social Development Programme is a social intervention that provides mechanisms for eligible citizens of Trinidad and Tobago to improve their standard of living and quality of life through the provision of grant services to improve the infrastructure and physical living conditions of their dwelling homes in the areas of minor structural repairs, improvement to sanitary plumbing facilities and electrical wiring installations

Target Groups: The Programme seeks to specifically target the poor and vulnerable groups in society including but not limited to; senior citizens, persons with disabilities, unemployed persons and single parent households.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Financial: Application of a Standard Means Test (except for disaster victims).
  • Property Ownership: Must have ownership or authorization to occupy (Deed, Tax Receipt, or Authorization Letter).

General Requirements

  • All non-disaster applicants MUST undergo a Standard Means Test (SMT).
  • Grants are NOT for commercial enterprises.
  • Payments are made directly to the supplier or service provider.
Grant Type: Structural

Minor House Repair (MHRA)

Up to $15,000.00
Details:
  • Intended for repair/upgrade of dwelling houses.
  • Materials only.
  • Up to $20,000.00 in materials to effect repairs in the event of a disaster.
Grant Type: Sanitation

Sanitary Plumbing (SPA)

Up to $15,000.00
Details:
  • Repair/upgrade of toilet and bathroom facilities.
  • Materials only.
  • Allows for upgrade of outdoor facilities (outhouses) to indoor facilities.
Grant Type: Electrical

House Wiring (HWA)

Up to $25,000.00
Details:
  • First-time wiring or rewiring for faulty installations.
  • Materials Only: Up to $15,000.00.
  • Material & Labour: Up to $25,000.00 (Labour capped at $10,000).
Important Note: NSDP grants are NOT provided for commercial enterprises. All approved grant funds are disbursed directly to the supplier or service provider.

  • Proof of Income (Job Letter/NIS)
  • Property ownership documents
  • Quotation for materials
  • Fire Report (Disaster only)
