By Communications August 18, 2026

Continuing its drive to support entrepreneurship and expand access to economic opportunities, the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services delivered One Hundred and Nineteen Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars (TT$119,750.00) in Sowing Empowerment through Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) grants to eight (8) recipients across the San Fernando, Princes Town and Mayaro/Rio Claro Regions on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The outreach, led by the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, reached eight (8) households providing support to establish, strengthen and expand their small businesses.

Minister Mohit visited recipients at their places of business across the three regions, engaging with entrepreneurs and gaining first-hand insight into the businesses they are building and the opportunities the grants will create for their livelihoods.

The businesses receiving support span several areas including beauty/hair services, graphic design/apparel, construction, electrical services, food preparation/catering, agriculture and tent rentals /event services.

The assistance will enable recipients to invest and expand their businesses, strengthen operations and build sustainable sources of income, while contributing to economic activity within their communities.

Minister Mohit said,

“we have seen entrepreneurs who are determined to build, improve and create opportunities for themselves and others. I am grateful to each person who welcomed us into their space and shared their journey with us. Through SEED, we are proud to provide the support that can help turn their determination into stronger businesses and sustainable livelihoods.”

The SEED Programme, administered through the National Social Development Programme (NSDP), provides financial assistance to eligible persons to establish or expand micro-enterprises, promoting entrepreneurship, self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods. This outreach forms part of the Ministry’s continued efforts to connect citizens with opportunities that can strengthen economic resilience, support income generation and foster greater economic independence.
