Ministry of the People Distributes Wheelchairs and Provides Disaster Relief Assistance Across Communities

By Communications October 28, 2026

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services distributed twenty (20) wheelchairs and provided disaster relief assistance to four (4) beneficiaries across communities in Trinidad and Tobago during a series of distribution exercises held on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th October, 2026.

The initiatives, held in Siparia, Cunupia, Freeport and Gasparillo, reflect the Ministry’s continued efforts to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities and provide timely assistance to individuals and families affected by disasters.

The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, delivered the feature address at the various events and reaffirmed the Government’s people-centred approach to social protection.

Minister Mohit emphasised the importance of dignity, independence and inclusion, noting that wheelchairs provide more than mobility, as they can help individuals participate more fully in everyday life. She also underscored the Ministry’s responsibility to respond to disasters with timely assistance and compassion, supporting affected individuals and families as they work towards recovery.

The distributions included a total of ten (10) wheelchairs and one (1) disaster relief grant for beneficiaries from Siparia and Cunupia on Monday, followed by a further fifteen (15) wheelchairs and three (3) disaster relief grants at Tuesday’s exercises in Freeport and Gasparillo.

Through these interventions, the Ministry continues to strengthen social protection by addressing mobility needs, supporting greater independence and helping disaster-affected households meet urgent needs. These efforts form part of its wider mandate to ensure that vulnerable individuals and families have access to essential support and opportunities to improve their well-being.

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services remains focused on positively transforming the lives of the people of Trinidad and Tobago through the equitable delivery of quality social services.
