The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services wishes to inform the public that, subsequent to notification by correspondence of the ongoing delay in issuing the reimbursement of funds to a client whose Senior Citizens’ Pension cheque was fraudulently encashed, it has taken decisive action to resolve the matter.
The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, together with the acting Permanent Secretary, met to expedite a resolution. The matter was promptly referred to the Comptroller of Accounts, who authorised the issuance of a replacement cheque. The cheque has since been prepared and will be delivered to the client.
The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services continues to collaborate with the Anti-Corruption and Investigation Bureau, Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the Comptroller of Accounts, Treasury Division, Ministry of Finance to address such incidents with the utmost diligence and care.
The Ministry remains firmly committed to strengthening our internal systems to ensure that citizens, especially the most vulnerable, are protected. We are taking decisive steps to prevent any recurrence and to better serve the people who rely on our care and support.
