In keeping with its commitment to support citizens during times of crisis, the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services has delivered vital assistance to Ms. Genieve Pierre of LP# 27 Paltoo Trace, South Oropouche, whose home collapsed on May 26, 2025, as a result of severe termite infestation. The incident left Ms. Pierre and her two young dependents without shelter or possessions.
The presentation of disaster relief support took place at the Ministry’s Head Office, St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain. The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, underscored the Ministry’s continued commitment to vulnerable families and noted that it was a privilege to provide meaningful assistance to Ms. Pierre and her family during this challenging period.
Through the National Social Development Programme (NSDP) the following grants were provided to Ms. Pierre to aid the family’s recovery:
- Temporary food support
- Rental Assistance Grant
- Household Items Grant
- Clothing Grant
- Psychosocial support through the National Family Services Division
The Ministry takes this opportunity to remind the public of its crucial role as a second responder in the event of national disasters. Through its various support services, the Ministry provides emergency relief to individuals and families rendered vulnerable by unforeseen events.
