Ministry of the People and Sewa TT Strengthen Collaboration to Support Vulnerable Communities

The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS), today toured the Sewa TT Annual Clothing Recycle Project 2025 at the Divali Nagar site in Chaguanas, where she met and expressed appreciation to the dedicated volunteers supporting the initiative.

The project is expected to benefit more than 6,000 individuals, including 1,100 beneficiaries supported directly through the Ministry. This initiative is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Ministry and Sewa TT, aimed at providing clothing and essential items to those most in need. Through this partnership, the Ministry helps identify NGOs, transitional facilities, and vulnerable clients to ensure that assistance is distributed fairly and efficiently.

During the walk-through, Minister Mohit was accompanied by Mr. Revan Teelucksingh, President of Sewa International TT and Ms. Cindy Heeralal, Coordinator of the NGO Unit at the Ministry. Together, they observed the ongoing sorting and organization of clothing that will be distributed to beneficiaries including 25 of the Ministry’s institutional stakeholders, such as shelters, senior citizens’ homes, children’s homes, and facilities serving the socially displaced.

The Minister commended Sewa TT for its unwavering commitment to social responsibility and volunteerism, noting that the initiative promotes sustainability while helping to restore dignity and comfort to those most in need. This project reflects the power of collaboration and compassion. It is a shining example of how partnerships between Government and civil society can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

The Ministry’s continued collaboration with Sewa TT underscores its broader mission to strengthen relationships with NGOs and community organizations, fostering a more responsive, inclusive, and caring society.
