Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, met with Cerebral Palsy Advocate, Mr. Sunderlal V. Sonny, today Friday November 14, 2025, at the Ministry’s Headquarters on St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain.
Born with Cerebral Palsy, Mr. Sonny has overcome significant challenges throughout his life. He began speaking at the age of seven and developed motor skills which led to him taking his first steps at eight years old. His journey of perseverance, strength, and determination has shaped the motto he now shares with others, “With any disability, you can make it.”
During the meeting, Minister Mohit commended Mr. Sonny’s resilience and paid special tribute to his mother, Ms. Vidya Jualla, whom he identified as his greatest source of encouragement and support.
“It is very good to see not just a child of our nation, but a student who has elevated himself through challenges to demonstrate that nothing is impossible,” Minister Mohit said. She further reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities, noting that the Government continues to advance several initiatives aimed at improving access, inclusion, and empowerment for this community.
Mr. Sonny expressed enthusiasm for these plans, sharing that he is eager to contribute meaningfully to society. He is currently writing a book which he hopes will inspire persons, especially those living with disabilities, to strive toward greater personal achievement.
The Ministry remains committed to creating an inclusive Trinidad and Tobago where every individual is supported, valued, and given the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
