Minister Delivers Exhortation to Social Services Delivery Officers Following Training and Orientation Programme

By Communications March 27, 2026

The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, today, March 27, 2026, delivered an inspiring exhortation to the newly trained cohort of Social Services Delivery Officers at a certificate distribution ceremony held at the Chaguanas Borough Corporation. This marks the successful completion of a five-day orientation and training programme.

In her address, the Minister stated that the occasion represented far more than the awarding of certificates; it was a defining moment of purpose, responsibility, and service. “This is not simply about certificates. It is about a calling. It is about responsibility. And above all, it is about people,” the Minister stated.
The cohort of officers represents a strategic investment by the Government in strengthening the delivery of social services across Trinidad and Tobago. The Minister emphasised that the officers are now positioned at the frontline of engagement with vulnerable citizens and are expected to embody the values of empathy, professionalism, and integrity. “You are not just entering a job. You are stepping into a role that places you at the frontline of dignity, hope, and human resilience,” she told the participants, charging them to serve as “ambassadors of the poor and the vulnerable.”
The Minister highlighted the critical role that Social Services Delivery Officers will play in transforming the experience of citizens accessing public assistance. She stressed that while compassion is essential, it must be supported by accountability, efficiency, and adherence to established regulatory frameworks. “Compassion must walk hand in hand with accountability. Empathy must be guided by structure. The public must feel the difference when they interact with this Ministry,” she affirmed.

Reinforcing the Government’s commitment to reform, the Minister noted that the social services system is currently being re-engineered to improve responsiveness, transparency, and efficiency. The newly trained officers are expected to play a key role in advancing this transformation by improving service delivery and reducing delays. “I expect you to bring clarity where there has been confusion, urgency where there has been delay, and integrity in every decision you make,” the Minister said.
The Minister also encouraged the officers to view their roles as the beginning of a meaningful career in public service, noting that opportunities for growth and advancement will be available to those who demonstrate dedication and professionalism, stating that the Government believes in building people, not just programmes.
Minister Mohit reiterated the Government’s vision for a modern, people-centred social services system, one that is data-driven, fair, and accessible to all citizens. She emphasised that this vision will be realised not only through policy, but through the daily actions and commitment of frontline officers. “The business of social services in Trinidad and Tobago is being re-energised and reshaped, firmly placed at the service of the people,” she said.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants, signalling the start of the officers’ journey in delivering critical social support services to communities across the country.
