The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS), led by the Honourable Vandana Mohit, today, Friday April 17th, 2026, reaffirmed its commitment to community development and social empowerment through the presentation of a $30,000 one-off grant to the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) -SWAY (Serving Women and Youth).
The brief but significant presentation took place at the Ministry’s Head Office, St Vincent Street, Port of Spain, underscoring the Government’s continued partnership with civil society organisations that are at the forefront of social support and transformation.
The grant will directly fund SWAY’s Holistic Women’s Wellness Day, an initiative aimed at supporting approximately sixty (60) vulnerable women from across Trinidad. The programme will focus on improving access to health information, emotional support, and community networks, particularly for single mothers and vulnerable women.
In delivering the grant, Minister Mohit emphasized the Ministry’s mandate to uplift vulnerable populations and strengthen community-based interventions, stating,
“When we invest in women, we invest in families, communities, and the future of our nation. Partnerships with organisations like SWAY allow us to reach deeper into communities and provide meaningful, lasting support where it is needed most.”
This initiative is expected to yield long-term benefits by empowering women with knowledge and resources, fostering resilience, and promoting healthier family units, key pillars in national development.
The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services remains steadfast in its mission to support programmes that improve the quality of life and build sustainable, inclusive communities.
