Ministry Provides Disaster Relief Assistance to a Couva Family Affected by Fire

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS) today, Friday 22nd May, 2026, presented a Disaster Relief Assistance Grant to aid a Couva family, during a brief presentation held at the Ministry’s Head Office, St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain.

The assistance, valued at $12,000.00, was provided to Ms. Lorna Foster, as a result of a fire which took place in 2024. The grants included support for household items and clothing to help the family recover and restore a sense of normalcy.

The Ministry, through its Disaster Relief Assistance Programme, continues to serve as a second responder during times of crisis by providing timely financial assistance, psychosocial support, counselling and referral services to vulnerable citizens affected by disasters.

The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting families in need.

Today’s grant distribution reflects our Ministry’s unwavering commitment to helping citizens rebuild after difficult circumstances, through meaningful social support and compassionate service

Minister Mohit stated.

The MPSDFS remains steadfast in its mission to provide people-centred support and interventions through its social service programmes, including the National Social Development Programme (NSDP), aimed at enhancing the quality of life of individuals and families across Trinidad and Tobago.
