The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS), on Saturday 18th July, 2026, delivered Disaster General Assistance and Home Repair Grants valued at Two Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty-Six Dollars (TT$275,956.00) to families in the Mayaro/Rio Claro region. The distribution marked the Ministry's thirty-seventh Disaster General Assistance and Home Repair Grant distribution since the Government assumed office, reflecting its continued commitment to bringing timely assistance directly to communities while systematically clearing backlogs.
Addressing recipients, the Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to ensuring that vulnerable families receive timely assistance through a more responsive and accessible social support system.
"People cannot put their lives on hold while bureaucracy catches up. We have worked diligently to clear long standing backlogs, improve access to assistance through initiatives such as the Revised Standard Means Test and ensure that support reaches families when they need it most,"
she stated
A total of nineteen (19) households, representing sixty-nine (69) beneficiaries, received assistance through the Ministry's Disaster General Assistance and Home Repair Grant programmes. The assistance comprised:
- Thirteen (13) Disaster General Assistance Grants benefiting forty-seven (47) persons, totalling One Hundred and Twenty-Four Thousand, Five Hundred and Six Dollars (TT$124,506.00).
- Six (6) Home Repair Grants benefiting twenty-two (22) persons, totalling One Hundred and Fifty-One Thousand, Four Hundred and Fifty Dollars (TT$151,450.00).
Minister Mohit reasserted that the distribution reflects the Ministry's wider commitment to restoring confidence in public service and ensuring that no vulnerable citizen is left behind.
"Government is not only about building infrastructure. Government is about rebuilding confidence and restoring dignity, giving people hope that somebody still cares. That is the commitment we will continue to honour as we work to strengthen families and communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago,"
she said.
Through initiatives such as the Disaster General Assistance and Home Repair Grant programmes, the Ministry remains committed to improving the quality of life of those it serves, by ensuring assistance reaches vulnerable citizens in a timely and efficient manner.
