TThe Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS), under the leadership of the Honourable Vandana Mohit, has reaffirmed its commitment to women’s empowerment through the presentation of a one-off grant valued at $10,000.00 to Girls of Impact Trinidad and Tobago (GOI-TT). The brief presentation took place at the Ministry’s Head Office, on St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain.
GOI-TT, a registered non-governmental organisation, plays a pivotal role in advancing the personal, educational, and economic development of women across Trinidad and Tobago. With an active membership of over 200 women and a beneficiary network exceeding 1,000 individuals, the organisation delivers targeted programmes in mentorship, education and leadership development, aligning it with Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality.
The grant will directly support GOI-TT’s flagship initiative, the Accelerate Her Career Mentorship Programme, an eight-week initiative running from July 4 to August 29, 2026. The initiative is designed to equip approximately sixty (60) young women, ages eighteen (18) to thirty (30), with practical career tools, mentorship and professional guidance, through a blended approach comprising virtual and in-person sessions.
The programme addresses key challenges faced by young women, including underemployment and limited access to professional networks, by fostering confidence, leadership and economic independence.
In her remarks, Minister Mohit underscored the importance of investing in women as a catalyst for national development. She noted that when women are empowered with the skills, support, and opportunities to succeed, it ignites a ripple effect that strengthens families, communities and the national economy. This investment in Girls of Impact is an investment in a more inclusive and resilient Trinidad and Tobago.
The Ministry’s support of GOI-TT reflects its ongoing mandate to empower women and promote sustainable pathways for social and economic advancement. Through strategic partnerships such as this, the MPSDFS continues to champion initiatives that transform lives and build stronger communities.
